When I was a kid back in 1976, my father draped flags on the side of the house for America's bicentennial. Now, here we are at its 250th birthday - and at 94, he's been around for more than a third of it.
We
live in a nation with a beautifully written constitution. A nation that
was created to stand against tyranny. A nation whose strength against
tyranny has been tested and proven over and over.
You
see that strength every day, it endures. People continue to stand for
freedom of speech and the press's ability to inform us of the truth. For
all to be treated as equal, and for equal protection of law. For due
process. For the ability to pursue life, liberty, and happiness. For us
to be ruled by democratically elected representatives as opposed to a
dictatorship. People who fight to see their children and their
neighbors' children be happy, healthy, and educated. People who take
pride in the vision of a better future for all. America has been tested
time and time again, and those who believe in her will always give her
strength to remain standing.
To quote the first line of The Godfather, "I believe in America!"
